Links2Care is a multi-service community organization which resulted from the merger of two great legacy agencies; Halton Helping Hands and Halton Hills Community Support and Information. Links2Care delivers a wide variety of services and programs region-wide for children, youth, adults and seniors. Links2Care brings together over sixty years of experience in delivering quality service to the community.
In 1972, Halton Helping Hands was established to provide household help to frail elderly and physically disabled people across the Region of Halton. In 1974, Halton Helping Hands incorporated as a charitable independent organization, publicly funded as a Home Support Agency through the provincial Ministry of Community and Social Services, the Region of Halton, and the United Way organizations of Halton. Funding was transferred in 1990 to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. During the following years, Halton Helping Hands added the Handyman Program, Student Services, Referral Service and Snow Clearing, developing a "basket of services" approach to meeting the needs of seniors and adults with disabilities.
In 1975, due to concern about the lack of social and health services in Acton, the Acton Community Service Unit was organized, and two years later it incorporated as Acton Community Services Centre, adding Meals on Wheels to its information and referral services. By March 1982, another name change to reflect the Region of Halton funding participation would result in the creation of Acton Social Services and Information Centre and thus it would remain until the 1997 amalgamation with Georgetown Meals on Wheels, the Open Door Youth Centre and the Parent/Child Centres. This new organization was known as Halton Hills Community Support and Information (HHCSI) and became a multi-service organization serving children and families through the Parent/ Child (Ontario Early Years) Centres, serving youth through two Youth Centres, serving adults through Community Support and advocacy programs, and serving seniors through Meals programs, visiting and reassurance programs, home maintenance, and a supportive housing site.
Links2Care is a charitable organization funded by Local Health Integration Networks, the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, Employment Ontario, Halton Region, four United Ways, The Town of Halton Hills, The Town of Oakville, and The Ontario Trillium Foundation, additional grants and private donations, agency and other fund-raising.
